1) What is the first song that sticks out in your memory?
Perhaps Dreamer by Supertramp.
2) How do you aim to effect and touch people with your music?
I have no way of predicting this, so I make no aims at all. I just go with what feels like the truth at the time, and very occasionally I get it right.
3) What song or musician has touched you most in your life?
Writers or performers who have depth and courage and an ability to experiment , these ones affect me the most. At the moment I am spending alot of time under the spell of Meredith Monk and Phillip Roth.
4) Which one of your own songs is your favourite to play at full volume after a long day?
After a long day with myself, I would probably prefer to just write a new song, to be honest.
5) What is the key to good a live performance?
I don’t really know, but I think it’s a strange combination of caring very deeply, and not caring at all. Hard to describe really. We all know it when we hear it.
6) Music is an inspiration for many fashion designers and artists what elements of these creative areas inspire you?
The whole lot actually. If I could pin it down, I could probably explain it better, but then I wouldn’t be able to feel it as clearly. Anyone living a creative life or showing true courage in any way at all is an inspiration for me.
7) Was there a defining moment in your life which made you realise music was your path and if so what was it?
There were several. One I remember is that I was going througha dark patch, and a friend who was usually quite reserved just reminded me that singing was the way to find my way out, and it was, and it still is.
8) What gets your inspiration ticking?
I don’t analyse it much. Some days it’s simply something inane like a excellent cup of coffee, or the way a stranger did her hair “just so”. I can’t say I understand it.
9) What else do you do/where do you go when you’re trying to put together an album to keep the mood alive
I go to Berlin. That’s where I am writing to you from.
10) What is your favourite memory of your live performances?
Today it is this; the first time we ever played Meredith Music Festival in Victoria. It was pouring with rain, we were playing out hearts out, our Manager Danny was out in the crowd with a plastic bag over his head handing out flyers, and everyone who was there really wanted to be there: it was a passionate exchange. This is a precious memory.
