Finalist Q&A- Rebecca Woloszek

1. What is the most significant hair style in history in your opinion?
I would have to say my pick would be the Twiggy crop. It was a monumental moment in hair fashion when she sported this short do in a time of long and big hair. What I love about this style is it could still be worn today. Timeless.

2. What is the most powerful influence on hair trends?
I think for the general public the most powerful influence on hair trends is what celebrities are wearing. There is always a mad rush for the Latest Posh/ Katie Holmes/ Kate Moss look!

3.Where does your inspiration for hairstyles come from?
Personally what influences me as a hairdresser is looking at what people on the streets are doing... Young kids with crazy hair they've done themselves. I love to see what they come up with and use this to inspire me to make a more client friendly version. Their creativity is very inspiring!

4. What is the key element in educating and inspiring new styles and stylists?
To educate and inspire others you have to have a passion for what you do. If you don't people will see straight through you. I always try to show what I am actually doing in the salon... everyday wearable styles that I can take to the next level. I never try and pretend I am something I am not and I think this helps when educating others.

5. What is your favourite aspect of hair competitions and awards?
Firstly it's the creative process involved. I love planning for and doing photo shoots! It's such a great opportunity to showcase styles you may not get to do everyday! Secondly it is the satisfaction you get from seeing all your hard work pay off! Getting recognition for your work from an industry icon is an amazing feeling, to know that they are looking at your work and like it is an amazing feeling!

6. If you could do anything with your own hair what would it be?
To have afro curly hair! My hair is dead straight and I would love curls but perms are just not a good look!

7. What do you think hair brings to a person’s identity?
Hair is such an important part of a person’s identity. It expresses who they are and how they want to world to perceive them. It is and unbelievable feeling when you give someone a new style and not only does their hair change but their whole composure does too.

8. What has been your most memorable hair disaster?
Oh man! There have been to many just to pick one! I would have to say the time I permed my hair wasn't the best! It wasn't in the 80's either! eek!

9. What is your advice on building a rapport with clients?
The best advice is to be honest... don't promise the something you know their hair won't do. Even though they may have their heart set on the new Posh crop if you can honestly explain why it won't suit their hair/ face etc... They will appreciate it in the long run.

10. Who‘s hair would you love to do?
I love to do anyones hair! Every head of hair is different and a challenge! And I love a challenge!
