1) What is the most significant hair style in history in your opinion?
I think each era has their own significant hair style, but during my career I have seen every Jennifer Aniston cut and colour come and go. Her hair looks have been the foundation of hair fashion for the last 10 years
2) What is the most powerful influence on hair trends?
Celebrities are the most powerful influence on hair fashion trends. It’s where our clients take their inspiration from. The media enables clients to see the newest looks within hours of a celebrity chop.
3) Where does your inspiration for hairstyles come from?
My inspiration is determined by individual’s features. Its not always about creating a trend, but working with the best features of your client or model. However turning to an Italian Vogue is always a great start.
4) What is the key element in educating and inspiring new styles and stylists?
Innovation is the key to education and inspiring stylist. Coming up with new ideas is something that happens by accident most of the time. When educating the key is to deliver the information in many different formats. We all learn differently, but most hairdressers respond well to practical demonstration.
5) What is your favourite aspect of hair competitions and awards?
My favourite aspect of awards is seeing a reward for all my collective work. It’s great to be nominated amongst an elite and talented group of industry professionals. Seeing my name in print or being up for an award gives me a continual drive and motivation to do what I love.
6) If you could do anything with your own hair what would it be?
I would love to be able to pull off a pixie cut or be platinum blonde - however my features would never be complementary to those looks.
7) What do you think hair brings to a person’s identity?
Hair is everything to a person’s identity. Your hair is a fashion accessory that you wear each and every day, so it’s really important to be comfortable with it and happy with how it looks.
8) What has been your most memorable hair disaster?
Once I cut my husbands hair way too short the day before he started a new job. Don’t think I’ll ever live it down.
9) What is your advice on building a rapport with clients?
I have built an incredibly diverse and loyal clientele and this is through having a genuine interest and respect for all my clients. Someone once said to me “learn as much as you can off every client you meet” and that has been such good advice every client has something they can give to us and we have something to give to them.
10) Who ‘s hair would you love to do?
I would love to do Madonnas hair. A friend of mine has done her hair a few times and insist that she’s quite boring, but I would love to have a Madonna experience. She always has great hair.
